Livestock

We had twenty-five purebred cows along with 200 commercial (cross-bred) cows that we raised with my grandparents. We tried to raise primarily heifer bulls and have succeeded in many regards. We were members of the Canadian Angus Association, Canadian Red Angus Promotion Society and the Peace Country Angus Club. I was quite involved with 4-H and enjoyed showing our 'reds' at the local fairs. We've shown at the Dawson Creek Fall Fair, Kiskatinaw Fall Fair, Calgary Stampede, Bonanza Fall Fair and the North Peace Fall Fair. We have sold them and these are pictures of my favorites or key animals.

My mum is from New Zealand and therefore I was raised around sheep as well. My favorites were the Texel sheep for their quiet nature and very nice carcass. I also prefer the white face. I have sold the sheep as my parents are leaving for Australia and my sheep winter at my mum's. The sheep will not be gone too long and I may consider purebred Texels this next time. I do miss having them around a lot as they are much more peaceful when comapred to the goats.

When I moved to an acreage I was worried somewhat about dogs and such getting my sheep and after much research I purchased a gelding llama for a livestock guardian. His name is Beau and he is quite the creature to have around.

I also did have goats around when I was growing up and they have rejoined our menajarie. I originally bought a few La Manchas, but found their personalities not to my liking. My favorites were always the Nubians and they make up the majority of our little herd. I ended up selling the goats this winter(2008).

We currently have 1 horse, a gelding for riding.
